I was very stoned during my interview with the LARB girl who canceled on me many time before tonight. It only went 30 minutes, and her final question was like do you think the moral of the book is that self absorption is bad, and I was like “It’s easy to see how self absorption is bad, but we are also living at the precipice of new, unexplored territories of self absorption, the effects of which are yet unknown. So yes, it is obvious to me the ways in which it is bad, but my answer is a cop-out. Like the dialectic. It has to be both. I like to believe self absorption may have benefits as well."
